Minister of Industry spoke about the course of negotiations on the construction of a grain terminal in Iran

Semurg Invest continues negotiations on the construction of an export hub on the coast of the Persian Gulf in Iran. This was announced by the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Marat Karabayev.

The day before, the media reported that Kazakhstan sent a request to the Iranian government for permanent deployment in the strategic economic zone of the port of Shahid Rajai.

Thanks to this, the country will be able to transit grain crops.

“There is such a situation. We are planning to make our terminal in the port of Bandar Abbas, so Abu Dhabi Ports (developer and regulator of ports and related infrastructure in Abu Dhabi - ed.) acquired the transportation company Simatech in Iran. Together with Abu Dhabi Ports, we will install the Sarzha container terminal on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. They are cooperating with us. Now we are organizing an LLP with them. By 2025 we will launch the terminal. Our Kazakh company Semurg Invest will build with them (in Iran - ed.). We will acquire land and build a port there. We will participate there, and they will participate here in the Sarzha. The main our goal is to have our own outlet for our goods,” Marat Karabayev commented on the information on the sidelines of the government.

According to the Minister, private structures are working to create an export hub in Iran.

The goods from the Iranian terminal are planned to be exported around the world.

The Transport Committee of the Ministry of Industry clarified that negotiations on the joint use of existing terminals in the ports of Shahid Rajai and Amirabad are fully conducted by the Kazakh company Semurg Invest.

In November 2022, a Kazakh delegation visited the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran and expressed interest in creating their own transshipment facilities on the coast of the Persian Gulf. Then it was reported that the Iranian side agreed to reserve 15 hectares of land for the construction of a dry terminal in the port.

The Port of Bandar Abbas is one of the largest transshipment hubs in Iran, located on the coast of the Persian Gulf, with a capacity of 135 million tons per year.
